Don't Become A Member Of The NFL (No Friends Left)

Have you been to one of those amazing business briefings outlining the best network marketing company ever, telling you about your opportunity of a lifetime, and promoting one of the most awesome products in history? The answer for me is yes.

Just over a year ago, I attended such a meeting. The atmosphere was electrifying. Everyone was dressed in their finest business attire. The meeting was held in a very prestigious hotel conference room and the speaker....was absolutely incredible.

I was sold - hook, line, and sinker. And sank is exactly what I did. I was intrigued by the possibility of making thousands, as in 5 figures, a month, having the car and home of my dreams and achieving what we all are looking for, financial freedom.

But at what cost would this goal be achieved. Once I got started with company "ABC" I dived in head first. I learned the business and started doing those very same business briefings myself. My upline kept insisting that I exhaust my "warm market". In network marketing, this is the term used to describe the people closest to you...your family, friends, co-workers, friends of coworkers and so on. The gurus know that your chances of recruiting are greater with those you have a sphere of influence over. Still, as I continued to educate myself about the MLM business, I began to doubt if what I was doing was actually on the up and up. I didn't want to be known in my community as the "one" who started a pyramid scheme. These are two words, "pyramid scheme" I was confronted with on a regular basis. I almost had my rebuttal memorized. "Oh, no this isn't a pyramid. We have great products and services to offer. A pyramid scheme has nothing to offer." And true enough, some of the products were pretty good. Things you certainly could purchase anywhere else and probably for a lot less but good products just the same.

The turn around for me occurred after I became a member of the NFL (no friends left). I did just what my upline told me to do. I exhausted my warm market. No sooner would I sign them up than they would drop off and not "work the business".A few remained active but just didn't seem as serious about the business as I was. I just didn't see how I would ever reach the level of success that was promoted so fervently that first night I attended a business briefing. My upline had no answers for me. "Just keep doing what you're doing". That's the line I was given mostly or urging me to write out my goals and how I planned to achieve them.

I felt lost. The promise of being coached, trained, and taught was never fulfilled. There was no strong emphasis on the products and services only on recruiting. This company sponsored an "opportunity call" every single night (except Christmas). You were urged to pack the conference call with prospects for your business. The calls would last anywhere from forty-five minutes to an hour. One of the top income earners would present the business over the phone. I did what I was told. I kept a phone book in my car, in my bedroom, and at my office. I called people I hadn't spoken to in years and urged them to listen to "the opportunity of a lifetime". Some would and some wouldn't.

At any rate, I never got not one sign up from these opportunity calls. Once I walked out of the fog and realized that this company was so close to being a pyramid the home office should have been in Egypt instead of here in the States! They put so much emphasis on recruiting and none on promoting their "awesome products". After losing thousands of dollars trying to make thousands and exhausting my "warm market" to the point where when acquaintances saw me, they went in the other direction, I called it quits. Although, I learned a great deal about the industry and know the things to look for if I ever decide to give another network marketing company a go.

Let me just say that all network marketing companies aren't bad. Two very successful ones come to mind right away - Avon and Mary Kay. Now neither of these promise riches and 5 figures a month. However, they are excellent businesses for supplementing your income. And I've never been asked to attend a business briefing by my Avon or Mary Kay distributors!

Network Marketing in One Easy Step

Network marketing, also known as multi-level marketing (MLM), can be a very successful way to build a home based business. All you need for a good network marketing business is a great product and the ability to develop an upline and a downline. The nice thing about a network marketing business is that you can work on it from just about anywhere and devote as much or as little time to your network marketing business as you choose. When it comes to network marketing, you set your own rules.

There are a lot of promises on the internet when it comes to network marketing, but there are some key points you need to consider when getting into network marketing. With a business as simple as network marketing, you do not need a college degree or special training. You will actually just need to choose a product or service to sell and have the ability to recruit the right people. The benefit is that if you have a good upline, there will be someone to help you through the process.

One good example of an effective network marketing plan is offered through Home Based Business World. A network marketing business should be simple and easy to run. With Home Based Business Word’s 1StepSystem, you get the benefit of a simple system to make money that does not involve a lot of time or recruiting. Simplicity is something to look for in a network marketing program, because if it is too complex it really might not be worth your time.

Timeliness is also important in network marketing. Whether you are handling your own selling and recruiting or the program works that aspect of the business, you want to look for a network marketing program that allows you to begin making money as soon as possible. For instance, the 1StepSystem was created to help you start earning commissions within a day or two of starting the network marketing program.

Besides earning commissions early, a good network marketing plan will also keep your commissions flowing in. This means that the money your earn from your network marketing program will become a reliable part of your income. Again, with the 1StepSystem, the commissions begin early and usually continue to flow in on a daily basis.

Another one of the other benefits to a network marketing program is that it allows you to work from home. Actually, it allows you to work from anywhere. All you usually need to run a successful network marketing business is your home and a computer. However, just like any business you run out of your home, you also need to make sure you set aside time to work and to play on a daily basis. When you are making good money through a network marketing plan, you will find yourself getting caught up in it a bit.

Why You Will Fail In Network Marketing-- Unless You Read This!

Did you know that 90% of all people in the network marketing fail! That's correct 9 out of every 10 people that come into this business will never achieve their hopes and dreams. One of my favorite quotes is, "Success leaves clues." But so does failure. So if you want to be successful, do what the successful people have done. If you want to avoid failure... avoid doing what the people who have failed have done.

People flock to network marketing because of the simplicity of the system. They hear that the opportunity is a turn-key system that succeeds for everyone who follows it. So why do people fail, in record numbers in such a system? They fail because, they pick and choose which parts to follow and which parts not to follow.

A system will not work if you do not follow ALL of the steps. It's like following the directions on a map. If you turn left when you are suppose to turn right, you may eventually get to your final destination, but it may take you much longer. You may even end up lost in the wilderness. And if you have a team of people following you, you may lead them astray in to that same wilderness.

So, what are the 4 key mistakes most people make who fail in this business?

1. They talk too much. Most of you in your excitement about your new business will try and go out and explain it to everyone you know, expecting them to be as enthusiastic as you are. This is a mistake! Although most people don't admit it, they make decisions on an emotional basis and THEN use logic to support their decision. You are excited about your business because you are emotionally invested in it. After you got emotionally invested then your brain came up with the logical reasons why you could do this business. Your friends and family work the same way. Follow the system that is in place weather it's a video presentation or sizzle or conference call. These have been designed to push the emotional buttons of your prospects FIRST, then the logical ones. Follow your scripts! Before adding words check with your up-line. It is amazing how adding just 2 or 3 extra words can make or brake your business. Also you want to keep the process as simple as possible. Remember this business is about duplicating success. Always KISS your business (Keep It Simple, Silly). That way your downline will be able to duplicate your success.

2. They fail to do something everyday. Your business, my business, almost any business is built on momentum. It is always harder to get it started, but once it gets started, it is easier to maintain. But once you stop, you have to start the hard process of getting started again. Think about that diet or workout you may have started at once upon a time. I'm sure you decided that I am going to get in shape or lose weight. You may have started off great, but then... you miss that one work out or you cheat that one day, thinking "Its just one day!" But that one day makes it easier to skip another day. Then it becomes a week... Now you have to start all over again. Make doing something everyday a habit. They say it takes a habit 21 days to develop. Prospect consistently for 21 days. It will seem hard at first, but in 21 days, it will be almost second nature. You may not see the benefits today, but with 30-90 days of consistent action, you will definitely notice some results.

3. They Don't Treat Their Business Like A Business. You have to invest in your business. In network marketing the asset that you have to invest the most is your time. We are all given 86,400 seconds in each day to invest. What we don't use, we lose. We can not save any on the seconds that we do not use. Therefore, we do not have any "spare" time. It is either used or lost forever. In other words you can work your business full time or part time, but not in your spare time. Plan the hours that your business will be open and work during those hours. It could be 7 hours a week or 70 hours a week. Just plan out that time and use it effectively. Spend 80% of your working time prospecting. The other 20% should be used training your downline and self development. Now you can use the hours outside of your work time to do extra prospecting, team building or self development, but think of this as overtime, which will pay off in the future.

4. They Quit Too Soon. Less Brown wrote a book, "Its Not Over Until You Win" I truly believe that is one of the biggest problems with people in this industry. People give up too soon. You wouldn't quit your job if they didn't make you a national director or vice-president in 3 months of (inconsistent at best) part-time work. So why should you expect it here. However, statistically it takes more than 10 years of grueling dedicated hours to become senior management in the corporate world. In the network marketing field, over 90% of the people who stay around for more than 3 years reach a senior sales level, working part time. What sounds like a better deal to you? Stay with it. Don't quit. If you do, the clock will start all over again. Remember, its not over until you win!

Nine out of 10 people fail in this industry because they are not willing to work hard and are looking for easy money. You don't have to be one of the failures. The road to network marketing success is filled with obstacles. It is your decision if you are going to use them as stumbling block or stepping stones. Also, don't get fooled by the simplicity of system. They system is very simple, but it is not always easy!

To your wealth,

Brian Johnson

Network Marketing - Compensation Plans

Before choosing a network marketing business you will want to know the compensation plans. You want the right plan, one that will generate a good income in reasonable time and one that will allow you to build your network marketing organization as wide and deep as you want it to go. A good plan must be simple enough to explain to a new recruit. It must be replicable making it easy for the recruit to duplicate what you have done, thus setting up a great downline that will bring in reoccurring income not only for you, but also for them. Below we discuss different types of compensation plans.

Stairstep. This one is the oldest and is very simple. Each promotion you meet will advance you within a set structure made up of levels. Usually, the distributor works on volume, and the sponsor will receive a percentage of that volume.

Breakaway. If you don’t mind building a team or company again and again with little money made, this plan could be a challenge. If you have a great distributor reaching whatever monetary limit on a certain level which can be the “breakaway” point, it drives the sponsor into discouraging any downline person from getting too close to the break away.

Unilevel. This plan can go very wide on your first level. It is an easy plan to explain to your distributor, however promotions are almost nil. Sometimes this plan can limit your depth of levels and the payout. It can discourage a deep sales organization.

Binary. Binary plans are limited on your first level. Everyone else goes below in depth. The drawback with this plan is that you may get a recruit who works hard. You see his potential. He will make a great team member, but because you have your first level filled, you have to place the hard-working advancing recruit at a level that will give you little benefit.

Matrix. This plan is sometimes called the “Game” plan. It is the most unsuccessful of all the plans because you are placed wherever the sponsor or company wants you. The only way this plan works well is when the that the products are used mainly by the distributors rather then by the customers. Otherwise, there is virtually no productivity.

Austratlian Two-up. One of the newest plans in marketing is the “Australian Two-up”. This plan is structured so that the first two people you recruit are given to your sponsor, and everyone else is your recruit. Some have been known to keep the strong prospects for themselves giving the weaker recruits to the sponsor. Thus some companies have come up with something called an override, or offering a bonus for the people you give up. Good luck if you can keep up with this one.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK

There are some great network marketing companies with beneficial compensation plans. These companies know that their distributors are their biggest asset, so they give them every advantage possible. They have small joining fees, have a lead product, and pay out on volume as well as on levels of BGP. So, before you sign on the dotted line, make sure what you are getting into. Do your homework first. Join a network marketing company that will keep you in mind at all times and give you a compensation plan that will let you climb to the top and succeed in your organization.

The Reality of Multi Level Networking

MLM or Multi Level Marketing offers many business opportunities for business owners, distributors and consumers. There have been many popular myths on MLM. Some of these myths include the potential to earn mega-dollars for little or no effort on the part of the distributor. This is far from the truth.

The multi level marketing system works well for business expansion. The chain of distributors markets the business and products in return for commissions. The consumers can get a better deal by buying at wholesale prices when they become distributors themselves.

The whole concept of MLM is based on the very basics of the term "business". Under the system of MLM, goods and services are distributed via various sublevels in the form of distributors and reach the end-user consumer via this chain of distributors. This system is providing extra income opportunities to thousand of distributors all around the world. Statistics reveal that in the 50 states in America and in over 100 countries world wide, the business model of MLM is successfully functional.

A distributor looking for a business opportunity using the MLM structure may want to look into online MLM options.

Working effectively with an online MLM model, you need to exercise a bit of caution before venturing into a program. This saves you from fraud which is prevalent in this business. Look into companies that have a proven track record. Companies that are debt free and that have been successful in using the MLM structure as their business model for a considerable period are good candidates to consider. Being part of a reputable company ensures your profits and potential loss is minimized.

Bear in mind that this type of business is not for everyone. If you are a self-motivated person who is full of enthusiasm, online MLM may be suitable for you. You will certainly be your own boss in this venture. The personal qualities needed to succeed in this business are similar to that of being an entrepreneur. The challenges of an MLM business are dynamic and a self motivated person will thrive in such a business model.

Finally, this business allows you not only to work from home but also when traveling. You can easily do business using a laptop and an internet connection. If you are person on the go this could turn out to be a profitable venture as your potential to earn is related to the flexibility that the business model provides.

MLM Lead Generation Secrets

Have you ever wondered what the secret to MLM Lead Generation is? If so, you're not alone. In fact, MLM lead generation, and lead brokering is one of the most lucrative businesses on the Internet. After all, if the lead companies were generating leads as good as they claim, then they would probably be using their own leads to build phenomenal MLM businesses themselves.

The truth is that they make more money selling leads to struggling network marketers than they could using their own generic leads to build an MLM company. That's because most leads are worthless. They're generic, untargeted, and in most cases they became a lead because they were simply trying to claim their free CD player or portable MP3 Player.

How effective are leads like that? The answer is not very effective, and to top it off, most lead companies, and brokers resell their leads many times to many different people. How responsive will a lead be if, 20 other marketers claiming to have the answer to their financial needs have already contacted them?

Spend 8 hours calling leads like that and I'm sure you'll agree that you've just wasted eight hours of your valuable time, not to mention hundreds of dollars to actually purchase those worthless leads.

So, what's the answer? Is there a lead generator that can generate real time target market leads specifically for your business, that are unshared and Exclusive to YOU and your business?

The answer is YES, but you may be surprised at where you might find this lead generator, because the lead generator is YOU.

Learn how to cut the lead generation companies out of the equation forever, and you'll put control of your business back in your hands where it should be. MLM Lead Generation will allow you to generate leads based on your specific criteria. You'll know where they came from, what information they are requesting, and most importantly, how much it costs to generate the exact leads you need.

There are many ways to generate leads, however, we'll focus on three of them in this article.

The first is advertising. You can advertise in PPC ads, Ezines, Newsletters, or literally any other advertising forum you can think of. This may sound obvious, but it does work, and the lead generation companies use this regularly. Don't discount this form of lead generation. Ezines and newsletters are targeted, and often have hundreds, or even thousands of subscribers that will read your ads.

The second method of lead generation is writing articles. Articles are very powerful because you can grab a reader's attention and interest far more effectively than straight ad copy. Articles can present your product or service in an educational manner and present you as an authority figure in that particular industry. Readers will naturally desire to learn more from someone who is an authority on a specific topic.

Finally, you can submit press releases to announce your product, service, or opportunity to the world. The key is that a press release should be news worthy. It's not a sales letter or solo advertisement. It needs to come across as news worthy content.

Keep in mind; MLM Lead Generation will involve a number of advertising and promotional activities. In this article you've been introduced to a few basic techniques, but we've literally just scratched the surface. Do some research on marketing and online advertising? You'll find a number of resources available that will help you begin generating your own exclusive leads. For example, you can get a complete Lead Generation E-Course at www.LeadCaptureSites.com. You'll learn, in more detail, how the lead generation process works, and how YOU can put your own MLM Lead Generation System in place, and literally cut the lead generation companies out of the equation forever.

Free Publicity For Your Home Business

Whether you are just starting out as a new business or are operating a current establishment on a budget, there is never a bad time for free publicity. One of the largest expenses that a business has is with advertising costs. This is especially true of home-based businesses, which have little additional costs other than advertising. The price of running an ad in a print publication can be large, which is why many business owners are looking for new ways to cut their advertising costs and maximize their exposure.

The only way that customers will know about your business is if they are made aware of it's existence. Therefore, a press release is one of the most effective ways to gain free publicity for your home business. Unlike traditional stores, which have a physical presence, a home based business relies solely on a customer's knowledge that it is there. For example, if you are a freelance photographer, you will need to generate more publicity than a traditional photography studio. Why? Because a photography studio may be located in a shopping mall or center but, as a freelancer, your business will rely on self-promotion and word of mouth. The same is true with website owners who rely on internet commerce. Because you do not have a physical store, you need publicity to get the attention of potential customers. This is one of the scenarios that a press release will help. In order to get the most out of your press release, submit it to local newspaper editors, print magazines and free online press release submission sites.

A well-written, attention grabbing news story could land you a lot of new customers. It should be no longer than one page in length and include photos if available. In order for your press release to get published, you must have an interesting angle or be participating on something noteworthy. A new business opening is interesting, but isn't likely to garner a lot of continued attention. But, a new business who is providing a contest with free entries may do the trick. If you are a photographer, offer a free photo package to the winner. If you own a website, allow visitors to enter their e-mail address for a chance to win a free prize package or something relevant to your business. Everyone likes free stuff and if you give your customers what they want, they will be back for more.

If you have a home business, you should definitely consider getting a website. The internet is a terrific place to post your press release but, in order for internet promotion to be effective, you will need a website. Promoting your spot on the world wide web with press releases and article marketing are just a few of the ways to get free publicity. Others include link exchanges with friends, acquaintances and other businesses.

Just as there are plenty of ways to obtain paid advertising, there are just as many ways to get free publicity for your home business. Publicity doesn't have to be expensive and, for those who are truly resourceful, it may not even cost a cent.

MLM Training - How to Get Your Downline to Successfully Duplicate

Several months ago I conducted a survey to find out what network marketers really wanted to learn, and what topics would be helpful to them. I discovered an overwhelming number wanted to learn more about successful duplication within their organization. Some specific questions were asked and I am answering them here.

Q. What is the most important thing that a network marketer's organization should duplicate?

A: A successful action. I know that sounds funny but that really is what it comes down to. You've got to duplicate something that is doable and simple so that it doesn't require an enormous amount of training at each level. That's not to undermine training, but if what you're trying to duplicate is so complicated that you can't get very ordinary, average people to do it - if it requires you to have just completely brilliant people, then you're going to be limited.

What ever it is that you're duplicating . . . let's just say that it's a script for making outbound phone calls but this script has got a lot of words in it that the person delivering the script has a hard time with. Not only that, but the person receiving it has a hard time with those words. That's not going to duplicate. So that's the first thing - make sure that you're duplicating something that is simple to learn and grasp.

Q: In your own organization that you built how did you figure out what to do and what to duplicate?

A: I learned that the first thing to do is to build a prototype that actually works. When I define the word "work" I mean that you as an individual are able to make a customer happy. And once you make that customer happy you've got to write it out - write out exactly what you did. Then follow your own written procedures and see if you can recreate that same happy customer in another person.

How this worked for me is that I just looked over my product line and what suited me best (my company sold personal care products). I noticed that I was around a whole bunch (being in the Navy) of guys that had bad skin -- acne, problem skin. So I first got successful with myself. I had a similar situation with my skin so I used the products and found the best combinations and so forth that got me results.

From that I was able to get four other guys that were in my unit to do the same process. I wrote up what it was that I did and then I showed them how simple it was and that they too could help people that they knew and saw that had problem skin. I ended up with this whole group of rough, tough, macho guys out there selling this mud that pulled impurities out of the skin. That was the way that my organization began to duplicate.

Q: Did you find it was easy to teach your downline to do exactly what you had done?

A: NO! That's where you have to perfect your system. You have to continually work on your systems to ensure that those systems are in place and are workable. And then this is the part that can get you - once a person figures out how to get success, the greatest seduction, I believe, in all of life is to always want to continue to DO that, instead of TEACHING that. Because it seems easier to do than having the patience to sit back and allow that other person to make the same errors and mistakes that you made.

I think that is perhaps the greatest difficulty in leadership. I think that every one of the books that's out there on leadership - that's the part that I've always seen that's missing. Having the patience to just sit there and watch and observe, and see people in your group make mistakes but not correct them at that particular moment but....to sit back and say, "Alright is this a systematic thing that I need to change? Or is this something specific to this individual that I need to change?"

I'll give you an example for this. There's a lady in my organization now, and she has absolutely resisted being a public speaker, and speaking in front of more than one or two people at a time. I started off encouraging her to just stand up and do nothing but introduce me. And of course she fought it, and she needed to prepare for it for a week, and things like that. But in the process, I taught her how to teach herself, if you will. In other words, I told her, "Okay, what you need to do is set up a teddy bear or some kind of stuffed animal that you're communicating to and then talk to it."

So, the next time I'm speaking at one of her events, I'm listening to her introduce me, and I walk into the back of the room, and no one can hear her back there. Of course, I'm not going to correct her in that moment, so I wait and then I praise her. The rule is that you praise twice and correct once. If you ever get those ratios out of order then you're going to have basically a "tucked tail". That's what they call it in the dog training world. When you're training a dog, if the tail goes below parallel to the back, you stop training that dog (because he's starting to feel "whipped") and you praise the dog. So, in a similar way, you praise twice and correct once with people.

With this lady, I waited until it came back around again that she was going to be presenting. What I said to her was "Okay, it does you no good to prepare and plan and train yourself if the people can't hear you. And so what I want you to do is to read aloud to your children." She's got two kids and she had already told me that she reads to them every night. I told her, "What I'd like you to do is put them on the other side of the room; don't cuddle up in the bed with them. Be on the other side of the room and you read to them."

She tried that and of course she emailed me back and she said, "That was unbelievable! The kids kept saying, "We can't hear you Mom!" She began to figure out, "Oh, okay. I have to project my voice. That sound has to get to the back of the room. Just because the front of the room hears it, it doesn't mean that the whole room hears it."

So this is what I'm talking about. That was something that was specific to that person that I had to assess - "Okay, there is something that she needs help with. What specific thing does she need training in?" Then I figured out a way to teach her to do that.

Now, she was just on a radio talk show and she's been requested to come back and be a speaker in this community of events that happens every week. She is becoming that public speaker that she resisted being for so long. And of course, now she ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT. I've seen her speak; she's good.

Being a leader means developing a simple, workable system and then having the patience to teach others - in spite of the discomfort of sitting through their mistakes. It's not always easy but it can be really profitable for you.

The #1 Reason For Failure In Network Marketing

Are you currently building a network marketing distributorship?

What are your 2 biggest business challenges? Would you like to do something about them?

I bet you would. And here's the first thing you need to know: These challenges are not your fault!

The cards were stacked against you right from the start!

You just didn't know it. You didn't realize it. And here is why they were stacked against you.

Let's take a very close look at the network marketing business model. Because you're an entrepreneur, you're here to make money, you're in business. So it makes sense to look at the business model, doesn't it?

What I've seen is that very often it's your company's business model that causes your problems, not you. Let me give you an example. I'm sure you've seen network marketing companies that brag about having a huge, multi-million dollar home office. They have pictures of it on the website, flash presentations, it's on all the brochures. But the millions of dollars that paid for that building is money that you will never get back in your compensation plan.

In network marketing, the ONLY place that money is made, whether by the distributors or the company, is from the compensation plan. Your MLM company does not have another stream of income that generates money for them.

Company Income Always And Only Comes From YOUR Compensation Plan

So whatever spending you see, that is money that will not come back to you in the compensation plan.

But here's where it really gets ugly. Your company's beautiful building requires maintenance. They need a cleaning staff. It has to be painted, windows have to be maintained, bathrooms have to be maintained, these buildings get cleaned every night. They have a water bill, an electric bill, heating, air conditioning. They do everything necessary to make that building a showplace for the company.

Who Is Paying That Monthly Bill?

Where's the money coming from?

Correct - it's coming from your compensation plan. That is money that you will never receive in your check. It's gone.

Now ... when do YOU plan on using that building?

Did I hear you say, "Never!"?

Exactly. You will never use that building, yet you are paying for it. And that's not all. These bloated network marketing companies brag about their call center, and the hundreds of employees they have sitting there, ready to take your order, giving you the best possible customer service.

But every one of those people is a salaried employee. They get health benefits, maternity leave, vacation leave, sick leave. The company has sexual harrassment insurance. Those employees get bonuses over the years, raises. Each one works in an office at a desk, with a phone and computer.

That is a monthly bill.

Who Is Paying THIS Bill?

Exactly. YOU are! (Are you beginning to notice a nasty trend?) That's more money again that will never come back to you in the compensation plan.

Now ... where do you think THIS business model will go in the future? Do you think your company will have less expenses or more expenses?

Sure. It'll be more. As the building gets older, it needs more maintenance. The longer people work there, the more salary they expect. As the business builds, they'll outgrow the building ... and, of course, build another new building!

Another good indicator of the heart of a company is, where is the warehouse located? Most cities have a warehouse district, very low-rent, low cost. It makes sense for businesses to keep their stock there. But most MLM companies have the warehouse right next to their big new building. Why? Because it's more impressive, and they can say, "Look at us! Look what we've done!"

Who Pays For That Extra Expense?

Yes, of course. It is you.

So what's the solution? The key is to find a streamlined MLM business ... one that doesn't feel the need to put on a gaudy show with YOUR money! I'll talk more about that in just a moment.

First, let me give you an example of how this high-overhead business model affects YOUR ability to build your business.

I'm thinking of 3 different companies right now. They all market the same product, a multi-vitamin pack. It's an awesome product, flat-out works, and all 3 companies market the identical formula, identical raw ingredients. Except Company #3 has also added to the formula a chelated enzyme to allow you to digest & absorb nutrients better.

Now would you agree with me, that to produce that product, same quantity, same quality, same formula, the cost of production for those companies is within pennies of each other?

Of course it is.

Well, Company #1 markets the 30-day supply of that vitamin pack for $117. So do you think you're going to be able to retail that to someone? Do you know anybody who would gladly pay you $117 for a 30-day supply of a multi-vitamin pack, regardless of how great it is?

I'll bet you don't. It'll be tough, for sure. So therefore, you're going to have a challenge to retail that product.

Company #2 sells the same formula for $108. It's still expensive. You're still going to have a challenge retailing that.

Company #3, which has the same formula, with the added chelated enzyme, so you can digest & absorb it better, sells it for $39.95. Now, I ask you, is that affordable? Do you think you know people who may purchase that product from you?

Absolutely.

The Business Model Drives The Behavior

So what kind of behavior do these different business models create in the field? Here's what happens.

People who market the more expensive products spend their time recruiting. This is where the money is made for them. There's no money in retailing for them, because nobody's going to pay that high price for that product.

So what do they have to do? They have to recruit, recruit, recruit.

And what happens after you join them? When they sponsor you into the business, they have no time to work with you! You're in, they got the commission, and they have to move on to recruit the next person. They don't have time to work with you because their business is built on recruiting because they can't possibly retail products.

Now, do you have any idea why Company #3 can afford to sell the same formula, with the added chelated enzyme for better digestion, better absorption, at $39.95? Why do you think they can do that?

"They must not have the overhead."

Exactly. They have way less overhead than the other 2 companies. Their warehouse is in the warehouse district. No multi-million dollar home office. They take 97% of their orders automated over the internet, so they need very few actual employees.

Company 3 Has Just a Small Fraction of The Overhead of Company 1 or Company 2

So it's a more distributor-friendly business model.

I've found that 92% of the population doesn't like to sell and doesn't want to be sold to. How aggressive do you think you have to be to move a box of a 30-day supply of a multi-vitamin pack at $117 each?

Pretty darned aggressive, don't you think?

And let me ask you this. Who do you think is buying this? You don't know anybody who'd buy it. I sure don't know anybody who'd spend $117 for it. But they sell plenty of it. Who do you think is buying it?

It's the distributors. The distributors are buying it. Why? Because they have to qualify to get their bonus check. That's the only reason they're buying it. This pricing doesn't create a retailing behavior.

A Real Example Of How To Use An MLM Product

Do you know anybody who suffers from a blood-sugar disorder like hypoglycemia or diabetes?

OK. This person that you know, do you think they might know 5 or 10 other people who also suffer from diabetes?

Yes, they probably would.

OK. Well, do you think they might be interested in a product that could help them rebuild the pancreas and possibly take them off insulin or at least cut down their insulin? Do you think they'd be interested in a product like that?

I bet they would. Do you think they can afford to pay $19.95 for that product?

Sure they could. In fact, if you had that product, you could even afford to gift that to the right people, using it more or less as advertising, couldn't you?

OK. Now what would you rather have? Would you rather have people coming to your website, purchasing this product for $19.95, all these different people sharing with each other, or would you rather be in one of those first 2 companies, trying to market a $117 multi-vitamin pack? Which one makes sense to you?

Sure. The diabetic product. And look again, why can this company afford to do this?

Because they're streamlined. It creates a retailing behavior. You can do business this way. Anybody can purchase products at this price, because it's affordable. Does that make sense?

Of course.

But There's Another Big Surprise!

This is really interesting - guess which company of those 3 pays more to the distributor in the compensation plan and requires fewer people to get yourself to a $10,000 a month income?

Yes, it's Company #3. How is it they can do that?

That's right. Less overhead. And now you're starting to get the picture. You're understanding why it's so tough for you to make money in network marketing.

Next question. As time goes on and the bloated business model of Company 1 & 2 continues, what is going to happen?"

Let me tell you what MUST happen. They'll have to raise the price of the products and pay less in the compensation plan. It has to happen. There's no other source of money for them, so there's no other way to pay for increased expenses. They've created a monster that they can't control. The only thing they can do to keep it going is to keep feeding it.

And this is where you'll end up paying $4 for a bar of soap, $20 for a bottle of shampoo, $100 for some liquid nutritional. There are MLM companies out there right now where you can find those prices.

Where Have The MLM Giants Gone?

And it will get worse & worse over time. That's why companies flat-line. You know the famous names of the big-time, old-line companies ... they are flatlined.

So what do they do? They go into new countries. They open new countries, because they cannot compete in the US anymore. Their product prices are too high, their pay plan is too inadequate. Their US business & distributor base just falls by the wayside.

I recently read about a well-known nutrition juice. The article had a lot of stories of people making money. The company has an absolutely gorgeous building, all decorated in Tahitian motif. The building temperature is maintained high to be the same temperature as it is in Tahiti! They have a beautiful waterfall, a fountain in the foyer with their nutrition juice pouring out of it!

And what is this company doing to make money? They're opening up restaurants where they'll serve food & their juice. Now where is THAT money coming from? It's coming out of the compensation plan, and distributors are paying for it.

They say they're doing it to generate leads which will go to certain leaders in the company ... which means that if any reps benefit, it will be the heavy hitters - the ones who've already built big. It's just a way of transferring money from the part-time rep to the company and the heavy hitters!

You can look for product prices to increase and rep compensation to decrease. That's the problem when your overhead is sky-high.

The network marketing business model truly does drive the behavior in the field.
