Multi-Level Marketing in Today's World – How the Internet is Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks
Last night I was watching my local news channel and there was a spot on about current trends on the Internet. After listing all of the ways that the Internet is helping people in their lives, the newscaster made a flippant mention about watching out for all of the Multi-Level Marketing, Pyramid Schemes and Internet Porn sites while you’re online.
Isn’t it interesting that Multi-Level Marketing, a legitimate business plan that many businesses follow, got lumped in with those other two clearly negative and illegal trends?
Well, interesting – yes, but surprising – no!
We've all heard the story of traditional Multi-Level Marketing. You are "invited" into the system by a trusted friend. You sign up and purchase a whole bunch of whatever product the company wants you to sell. You then go out and try to convince other people to do the same thing. That fails to work and what do you end up with? A whole bunch of product that you don't even want, and a good dose of buyer's remorse!
The old Multi-Level Marketing business model did not work for a lot of people. Today the power of the Internet has changed everything. If you can grasp exactly how the Internet has changed your power to do business, you will be able to build a successful Multi-Level Marketing business in ways that were virtually impossible before.
We now have the power to build a huge support network and team before we even start selling a single product. In the past, you were out on your own, looking to sell a little product and hopefully build a little team of sellers. Unfortunately, recruiting new sellers was a task that proved to be too difficult for most people, so their businesses would fail.
However, if you can build a team before you even have a product to sell or if you can find one to join that has supportive like-minded people, that team will be the key to your success. Imagine having a sales force of 100 people to work with before you have even decided which product to start selling.
So, before you start looking for the next great Multi-Level Marketing opportunity, focus instead on finding a team that you believe in. Make sure that the team provides you with tools (such as advertising materials and training) to help you bring new people into the team yourself. If you can find a strong and supportive team that you believe in, those positive qualities will help you attract new marketers as well.
Taking this one step further, we find the real beauty in growing a supportive team. Instead of being tied to a single product or company, the team you have helped to grow has the power to move to any business opportunity that you choose. Once the team is built, it becomes a solid sales force that can market the best products and services available at any given time. The team’s loyalty will always be to you and the other teammates ahead of any company that you are working for.
The absolute key to succeeding as an Internet Marketer is to understand that first and foremost you are in the business of Networking and not selling. Find the team you believe in, get to know your fellow marketers, become a positive role model in the team yourself, and you will have the platform set to virtually guarantee your success.

MLM Training - The #1 Mistake Network Marketers Make
When talking with your prospect, after the first silent statement of, “I'm interested in you,” the next thing you do is DON'T BE DISTRACTED BY ANYTHING.
I know it sounds simple but boy does it show when you don't do this. And I wouldn't be discussing it if I didn't see that it is severely limiting many people from being good communicators.
When you are distracted by something, immediately your silent statement of “I'm interested in you” is gone because you're not interested in them if you're distracted by something else.
Instead, you're interested in the email that just came in or the waiter that just stepped up to the table.
In toasting a glass of wine, champagne or grape juice, customary etiquette claims that you should keep the glass to your lips until the toaster has taken it away from his/her lips.
In talking with your prospect, don't take your attention off the prospect until the prospect's attention goes off you. If the prospect looks at a TV, a waiter, a child, etc., don't keep staring at them – shift your focus to what they're looking at. When you're on the phone, keep focused on the conversation – no multitasking!
Extremely important things get skipped while you're doing other things. Your replies to their statements and questions are very often incorrect or inappropriate or not timed correctly. And don't think for a second they don't notice… it may be “okay” with them, but they know they are second [at least] in your order of importance. This is never okay.
For those of you who've listened to Professional Inviter you probably recall my conversation with the lady Ruth and how she was multitasking. So I asked her to repeat what I had just said to her. Did you hear her trying to respond? It's actually very funny when you listen to it. But that's an example of her not being able to correctly respond because she was multitasking.
When you're at an MLM business meeting with your guest, don't be distracted by the environment. When someone arrives late to the meeting – don't look at the late person. I don't care if EVERYONE looks; don't you. Keep your eyes on the presenter; this reveals the importance you place on the content of the speaker. Your guest will notice your actions. This also goes for someone leaving the room. Often MLM training meetings are more relaxed, but the same rule applies – don't be distracted by anything in the environment.
Some common things I see Networkers distracted by are:
• Men distracted by a cute girl walking by
• Women noticing the wardrobe of another woman walking by
• Television that's in the room
• Children or pets at an in-home meeting
• Cell phones ringing
• Someone more interesting than the prospect – which should NEVER be the case
• The rattling of a health/candy bar or a piece of candy
Forget everything else and just pay attention to your prospect! This subject comes from the Ten Communication Qualities on Professional Inviter. The first quality of the ten is BE INTERESTED IN THE PROSPECT. The second quality is DON'T BE DISTRACTED BY ANYTHING IN THE ENVIRONMENT.
If you think about it, if you're really doing the first quality, the second quality is a given.
Much respect and admiration,
Tim Sales

Beginner's Guide to Network Marketing / MLM
Network Marketing, also called MLM (multi-level marketing) can be very profitable. Many companies operate in this way, for example Amway, Kleeneze and the Body Shop.
The main requirement for this business is to be good at selling. Don't despair if you're a shy wallflower as selling is a skill that can be learned, and in most network marketing companies you should be provided with plenty of training materials and help.
When you join a network marketing company there are two ways of earning money. Firstly, by selling the company's products to the customer, you would then receive a percentage of the products you sell. Secondly you can also recruit other sales agents, while continuing to sell the products yourself. You would then receive commission for every sale your agents make also.
Although this is a profitable way to earn money, don't be fooled by claims that it is easy to earn money with little effort.
It can be possible to get into a position whereby you build a large network of sellers, who provide you with an income with their efforts, but you have to put in the work and it doesn't happen overnight.
If you are good at selling and are prepared to put in the work then this could be a very good way of making money.
There are a wide range of products available to make money. Choose a company whose products you like and perhaps would buy yourself, as this will make it much easier to sell.
Also make sure there are not too many agents for the company in the area you would like to work. This would make it difficult to sell a reasonable amount.
Try to find a proactive, experienced and helpful agent when deciding on which company to join. They will be the ones providing you with the most training and advice. Some agents provide regular training sessions and online forums to help and encourage each other.
Request information from several people or companies before making a decision.
You don't need any qualifications to join. You will be trained by the company you join to sell the product you choose.
Once you have chosen the company you wish to sell for, you will need to purchase their basic kit - this can be as little as a short training guide and some catalogues, to a package of products, stationery, catalogues and training materials. You should not be required to buy the products yourself to sell on. It is common however, to be expected to pay for some samples of the products at up to $200.
It is then up to you to make contacts to sell the products. You can sell through friends and their friends, work colleagues, special events, schools (check first), holding a party, or anywhere you can leave a catalogue in their business or office.
To work in network marketing you will need energy and resilience and a tough skin to cope with the many rejections!
At the start you may only be making a small amount, but successful people with a big network can make $200,000.
However this is not common and the average earnings are around $8,000 a year.
Pros
If you are comfortable with selling and have or can make contacts you could persuade to sell to, you can make good money.
Good way of meeting people.
Flexible working hours.
Help, training and encouragement from your upline (the person that you joined the networking company through)
Ready-made business
Cons
Lot of time and effort required.
Initial earnings can be quite low.
Could lose friends if you try too hard to sell products to them or try to make them become agents too.
Start up costs (although usually relatively low - less that $200.
Must be good at selling, or be willing to learn how to sell.
